Top 10 Best Historically Black Colleges with Online Degree Programs

The site Onlinecollegeplan.com recently ranked historically black colleges and universities with the best online programs. Their ranking methodology is based on 50% quality of education provided and 50% program flexibility. They believe these schools offer the unique opportunity of fulfilling the goals of attending an HBCU and doing so online. Here is the short list of college ranking in descending order:

Lincoln University

Located in Jefferson City, MO, Lincoln University specializes in meeting the needs of a diverse student population regarding age, ethnicity, gender, and socio-economic background. Lincoln provides online degree programs including Master of Business Administration with an emphasis in Management and in Public Administration & Policy.

Bluefield State College

Bluefield State College is located in Bluefield, West Virginia. The college is a part of West Virginia’s public education system and is one of the most affordable schools in the state and offers numerous undergraduate degree-granting programs, including nursing, biology, and engineering.

Located in Bowie, Maryland, Bowie State University places particular emphasis on the science, technology, teacher education, business, and nursing disciplines within the context of a liberal arts education. The University offers online opportunities in their business, professional studies, arts & sciences, and education colleges.

Hampton University in Virgina offers students the freedom to study online anytime to earn a Certificate, Undergraduate or Graduate degree in the University’s ever-expanding range of degree program offerings to include online Military learning and online Criminal Justice.

Albany State University, in Georgia, is a progressive institution that seeks to foster the growth and development of the region, state and nation through teaching, research, creativity and public service. ASU has been nationally recognized for its online Master of Education in Early Childhood Education and Master of Criminal Justice programs.

Bethune-Cookman University

Based in Daytona Beach, Florida, Bethune-Cookman University is a private institution that boasts a diverse and international faculty and student body of nearly 4,000. The school offers several programs through eLearning including Master of Science in Criminal Justice Administration and Master of Science in Transformative Leadership.

Tuskegee University

Tuskegee University is located in Tuskegee, Alabama. Their academic programs offer over 50 degrees including 39 Bachelor’s, 13 Master’s, and two Doctors of Philosophy.  Master’s degree online programs include Master of Science in Environmental Science and Master of Science in Environmental Management.

Howard University

Howard University in Washington, DC was founded in 1867 and in 2013 was ranked by U.S. News and World Report as one of the best National Universities in the country. Students can choose from over 120 areas of study and 80 majors to earn their degree. Online Degree Programs include Allied Health, Nursing, Business, and Law.

Tougaloo College in Mississippi offers the Bachelor of Arts and the Bachelor of Science degrees in 29 majors in the areas of education, humanities, social science and natural science. Many of their undergraduate programs, graduate programs, and professional certification programs are available to students, both on-campus and online.

North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, NC is the largest HBCU by enrollment and has over 20 online certificate and degree programs available at the bachelors, masters, or doctoral level.
