South Carolina State University sophomore Keith Gillard, known as KG the Artist, is helping raise money for his HBCU through music. KG, a dean’s list student studying mass communications wrote the original song “#HBCU” as an anthem for SCSU, and Historically Black Colleges Universities as a whole.

The anthem features the SCSU’s Marching 101 Band and is intended to send a positive message about Historically Black Colleges to the public. If you are a current HBCU student or alumni, you can definitely relate to this song. Gillard says he was inspired to write the song after the university’s accreditation problems.

The track produced by Stay Focused Music Group, is an independent record label founded and operated by South Carolina State alumni. All sales of the song will be donated to the South Carolina State University Alumni Fund.

The single “#HBCU” (feat. SCSU Marching 101), produced by M.I.C. Beatz is available for purchase on iTunes:
