Organizers of the 15th Annual Black Tie Scholarship Gala scheduled Friday, April 24, have announced this year’s entertainment for the evening.
“American Idol” winner and R&B vocal sensation Ruben Studdard will perform for the 2015 event slated for Huntsville’s Von Braun Center in the North Hall at 6:30 p.m. Studdard, a former student at AAMU, catapulted to international fame when he emerged as the second season winner of the popular “American Idol” television talent contest in 2003. More than 24 million votes were cast during the show’s final round of competition.
Over the past decade, Studdard has produced several musical recordings, has assisted various nonprofit organizations, and has made numerous television appearances. Born in Frankfurt, Germany, Studdard was raised in Birmingham, Ala., where he attended public schools before enrolling at Alabama A&M University.
Each year, the Gala provides the University an opportunity to showcase its best and brightest scholarship recipients, while closing the financial gap of students aspiring toward higher education. The Gala is also a mechanism to recognize individuals and organizations that are not only leaders in their respective fields, but also avid AAMU supporters.
This event was conceptualized by members of the Collaborative University Business and Industry Cluster (CUBIC) in 2001 as a way to raise scholarship dollars and to build institutional awareness. To date, the Gala has raised approximately $2 million dollars since its inception and has impacted the lives of hundreds of students.
Reserved tables are available for this scholarship gala beginning at $1,000. Individual tickets are available at $100 each. There will be no tickets sold the day of the event. For more information, please contact Marketing, Communication & Advancement at (256) 372-8344 or email blacktie@aamu.edu.
