HBCU homecoming is one of the best parts of the black college experience! Every year, we celebrate our heritage by attending parades, exciting events, and action-packed football games at historically black colleges and universities. Here are some of the traditions that have shaped homecoming week:
HBCU Homecoming Events
Although most alumni, students, and community members attend homecoming to watch football, there are plenty of events that you can attend during the week to learn more about your HBCU’s history and culture. It doesn’t matter whether you’re interested in HBCU homecoming concerts, Greek life, or homecoming coronations: you can find your favorite events by checking your school’s calendar.
Did you know? – North Carolina A&T State University is known for “The Greatest Homecoming on Earth”! Celebrities like Tiffany Haddish, Future, Fetty Wap, and Gucci Mane have performed during NC A&T’s homecoming week, and thousands of fans have traveled to Greensboro to watch their star-studded events.
Alumni Events
Homecoming is not just for students! Alumni travel thousands of miles to celebrate homecoming with their friends, family, and former professors. In addition to batch events, there are HBCU homecoming concerts, barbeques, and fundraisers that former students can attend.
Did you know? – In 2017, Florida A&M University chose one of the best HBCU homecoming themes for alumni. In honor of “A FAMUly Reunion: Celebrating 130 Years of Excellence”, the university brought current and former students together for their annual football game, comedy show, and performances by 2 Chainz and the Marching 100.
