Hampton University extends its congratulations to alumnus Sashi Brown, Class of 1998, for his recent promotion in the Cleveland Browns’ organization. Brown was named the new Executive Vice President of Football Operations for the Cleveland Browns as of Jan. 3, 2016.

“Sashi’s leadership, strategic thinking and appreciation for the importance of alignment between coaching and football operations will be tremendous assets for our football team in his new role,” said Cleveland Browns owner, Jimmy Haslam. “In addition, Sashi understands how critical it is to focus on the short and long-term process of team building, and that will positively impact our organization.”

The Boston native and Harvard Law graduate, served as the Browns’ executive vice president-general counsel since January 2013. Brown spent the previous eight years as the general counsel with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

“We must capitalize on every opportunity to develop our players to the fullest,” said Brown. “Having spent 11 years in the league, working as a football executive, I have a deep respect for the critical role of talent evaluation, and we will look to find an individual who excels in that area and is a good leader for the scouts and personnel.”

While at HU, Brown, a communications major, was a member of the Honors College and returned to campus in 2010 to deliver the Honor’s Day Celebration’s keynote address.

“We extend sincere congratulations to Sashi Brown for his recent promotion in the Cleveland Browns’ organization,” said Hampton University President Dr. William R. Harvey. “He is yet another example of one of our graduates upholding the Hampton ‘Standard of Excellence.'”

Sashi Brown’s appointment came after Haslam announced the release of the Cleveland Browns’ general manager Ray Farmer and head coach Mike Pettine. In his new role as Executive VP, Brown will oversee the organization’s daily football operations including taking lead of the club’s 53 man roster, and joining the committee to search for a new head coach, and new general manager.

Sashi Brown’s accomplishments became apparent last year when he was named to the Sports Business Journal’s coveted “40 Under 40” list of 2015.
