Bluefield State College (BSC) is a historically black college located in Bluefield, West Virginia, United States. It is a part of West Virginia's public education system and offers baccalaureate and associate degrees. It’s nickname is the Big Blues and the University is member of the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Their colors are Royal blue & gold and their motto is Making Education Possible.

History
- The school was founded in 1895 as Bluefield Colored Institute and created as a high school for the Negro youth in the nearby area.
- The school was renamed Bluefield State Teachers College in 1931.
- The name ―Bluefield State College was adopted in 1943.
- By the 1960s, the College had a comprehensive four year program of teacher education, arts and sciences, and engineering technology
- In 2003, the school's two year programs, except for those in nursing and engineering technology, were separated out from Bluefield State and became the foundation of the newly formed New River Community and Technical College.
Campus
Bluefield State College’s main campus is located adjacent to U.S. Route 52 in Bluefield, West Virginia. All degree programs are offered at this site with a traditional day schedule and a night schedule for working adults. The administrative service and supervisory units of the College are headquartered there, as are the computer center, instructional technology center and television production center.

- Mahood Hall, home of The W. Paul Cole, Jr. School of Business, opens for classes in the fall 2011 semester after receiving a $6 million “makeover.” Renovations include a new roof, elevator, and extensive lighting improvements. The building is now equipped with new technologies that permit instructors to broadcast and communicate with similarly equipped classrooms anywhere in the world in “real time.”
