HBCU 5k: Represent Your School for a Healthy Cause in DC

It’s time for the DC Metro Alumni HBCU 5k Run and Walk again! To increase awareness and education about the prevention of conditions like heart disease, diabetes, stroke, and cancer-the four leading causes of death in African Americans. The Washington, DC, Metro Historically Black Colleges and Universities Alumni Alliance, Inc. (DCHBCUAA) encourages all HBCU alumni, family and friends to come out and support the 5k RUN/2K walk in Washington, DC. This healthy initiative aims to educate on living well with proper diet and regular exercise and draw attention to the difficulties that many African Americans face in making healthy choices. The event, with proceeds directed toward helping DC area youth attend HBCUs, is worthwhile fun for the whole family.

Race Purposes

In the DC area and all across the country, the number of African American students who rely on financial aid to realize their academic dreams is very high. According to data, a full 80% of HBCU students use some form of financial aid during their college years. Without this assistance, a disturbingly large number of bright, ambitious students would be denied the chance for a quality education.

Funding is hard to come by, especially in these still-unstable economic times. To prevent the loss of bright young minds to the harsh realities of low-income situations, the Metro DC HBCU Alliance strongly encourages the entire DC population and the HBCU Nation to come out in support of deserving students.
