Golden Tigers being presented the Championship trophy.

The No. 8 seed Golden Tigers of Tuskegee defeated the No. 3 seed Statesmen of Delta State 80-59 to advance to the Elite Eight of the 2014 NCAA Division II tournament.

Tuskegee (21-11) was led by guard Kevin May, who scored a game-high of 24 points to go along with his five assists and three rebounds. Golden Tigers guard Elliot Dean (15 points), guard Javier McKinney (14 points) and forward Richard Dixon (10 points) all scored in double figures to bolster an offense that shot 50 percent from the field (30-60), 46 percent from 3-point range (6-13) and 82 percent from the free throw line (14-17).

“Everything is coming together, both on and off the court,” Golden Tigers head coach Leon Douglas said.

“I have an awesome group of young men. The kids have totally bought into everything we are doing. To beat a team like that, by 22 points, was an awesome job by my players. We've done a great job to this point, but the job is not complete.”

Tuskegee will next face Metro State, which beat Midwestern State, on Wednesday, March 26.
